How much water do we use in our homes?Being efficient in how we use water in our everyday lives is one of the most sustainable ways of ensuring security of our water supplies for future generations. Understanding patterns of scheme water use in Perth households helps us design and implement programs to reduce our water use in the long term. The recently released Perth Residential Water Use Study 2008/09 provides a snapshot of water use inside and outside the home. It also highlights areas we need to continue to work on – reducing water use in showers, in the garden, fixing leaks and using pool covers to reduce evaporation. This, together with increasing the amount of water that is recycled and developing new sources, is pivotal to meeting the challenges of our drying climate.
