South West Yarragadee

The Water Corporation had a proposal to develop a 45 gigalitre a year groundwater scheme in this area to supply the IWSS water grid. The scheme broadly consisted of a borefield and water treatment plant near the town of Jarrahwood, and a 110 kilometre buried pipeline to connect the treatment plant to the IWSS water grid near Harvey.

The Water Corporation conducted extensive investigations and planning and applied for a water allocation from this resource. An Environmental Review and Management Plan was submitted to the Environmental Protection Authority for approval in late 2005.

The Water Corporation has formally withdrawn the application to use the source.

The Department of Water is currently finalising a management plan for this groundwater system that includes reservation of water for public water supply, primarily for regional water demand.
