Need to Increase Wastewater System Capacity
The total amount of wastewater than can be treated by the current system is 123 gigalitres a year. Currently, total wastewater flows in the Perth - Mandurah region are 120 gigalitres a year. This means that the existing wastewater treatment system is nearing capacity.
By 2060, flows are estimated to be in the order of 237 gigalitres a year. This is nearly double the current flows. The existing wastewater treatment system will need to be substantially upgraded and new systems built to cater for the increased flows. Options for future expansions are discussed in the Create section.
